Grain prices are through the roof, and the supply of potato waste is drying up. Tough pills to swallow in a beef industry already beset by low beef prices and high fuel costs. There have been different options thrown around to offset dwindling potatowaste and expensive barley in beef finishing rations, most focussing on some variation of corn. Corn grain, either wet or dry, and corn silage are excellent energy feeds; energy feeds typically make up around 80 percent of the total dry matter in a finishing diet, balanced with some form of hay or silage to provide fiber.
