Chevron is leveraging the biofuel competencies acquired via last year’s takeover of Renewable Energy Group (REG) to diversify into renewable gasoline. The US major put the spotlight on these otherwise quiet ambitions on Monday by flagging a road trip along the US Gulf Coast featuring three Toyota vehicles - a light-duty truck, an SUV and a sedan - running Chevron-blended renewable gasoline. Chevron spokesperson Ross Allen told Energy Intelligence that the fuel was blended from components derived from across the company’s US refining system, while leaning on the capabilities of the Iowa-based integrated REG-Chevron team. "Many hands make light work," he offered.
