Unitika Ltd. announced plans to carry out structural reforms for its polyester staple fiber business last May, followed by Teijin Limited in November. Unitika will reduce its actual production volume to 10,000 ton/year by the end of March 2018 from 30,000 tons. Teijin will suspend production at the Tokuyama Factory (nominal capacity: approximately 49,000 tons) at the end of 2017, and the majority of production will be transferred to overseas subsidiaries. So what will happen to the Japanese PSF industry in the future?
