A Finewood example: Cape Breton flooring maker takes pride in hardwood management

Rain threatened, but clouds yielded to the sun Sept. 9-10 for two days of celebration on the woodlot of Peter and Candace Christiano, at Middle River, Victoria County, Nova Scotia. A student fun day held on Friday for three local schools (fromBaddeck,Middle River, and Wagmatcook) and a public day on Saturday provided an interesting and educational introduction to Category 7 uneven-aged management in tolerant hardwood. The backdrop for the events was a40-hectareFSC-certified woodlot comprising predominantly tolerant hardwood and bounded by the Middle River Wilderness Area. The woodlot owners are also the owner-operators of Finewood Flooring & Lumber Limited, located on the woodlot access road.
