Impiego dell'amikacina nel trattamento delle infezioni respiratorie nel cavallo

The study was carried out to assess the therapeutic efficacy of amikacin (7,5 mg. kg~(-1) b.w., intramuscularly S.I.D. for 4-6 days) in the treatment of equine respiratory infections and to describe the pharmacokinetic profile of the drug after a single intramuscular injection. The results evidentiated the complete remission of the clinical signs, showing the usefulness of amikacin in the treatment of several respirator), infections of the horse. Kinetic parameters recorded (t~(1/2)#beta# = 103.8 min; AUC = 87, 76 #mu#g. ml. h~(-1) Vd = 210 ml. kg~(-1), Cl_8 = 1,16 ml. kg~(-1). min~(-1)) showed a behaviour of the antibiotic in the horse similar to those observed in the ovine and bovine species by other Authors. The drug was well tolerated in all the animals and no side effects, local or general, were recorded.
