If 2020 was an abnormal year for growth in the sheet volume at retail - and if certainly was - its comes as little surprise that 2021 failed to match it.However, sales showed strong improvement compared to the norm. In a typical, pre-Covid year, sheet sales nudge up 1% or so. A little less in a down year, a little more in a good year. But coming off of a boffo 2020, when sales shot up 12% and broke the $2 billion mark, last year resulted in a 4% gain, adding $97 million in sales.Inflation certainly played a part, although many goods produced once raw material prices took off didn't start hitting stores until later in the year. A good portion of the growth came from sheer demand. NPD data for the first 10 months of 2021 placed the sheet set category among the top three home textiles categories for absolute dollar growth. (Comforter sets and sleep pillows were the other two.).
