A new method is proposed for separating different cell types by application of a rotating electric field technique. Plasma membrane electrical properties and cell size are critical parameters for cell separation. A suitable chamber is described and the theoretical and experimental aspects of cell movement are presented.Kalanchoëdaigremontianamesophyll protoplasts traveled with a velocity of about 3–7μm/s on the agar surface at a field strength of 3.5×10
