New house "The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts": this biblical text from the Prophet Haggai (chapter 2, verse 9) was used at the dedication of the new building for the New Apostolic Church at no. 2 Nideggegasse in Bregenz. The beginnings of the church community in Hard/Bregenz were very modest: when first founded in 1949 it did not have a space of its own for religious services. Initially, services were held in rented premises, but the community grew steadily and today has 300 members. The first church at no. 2 Nideggegasse was dedicated in January 1965. Services were held there for more than 50 years and the building therefore needed to be renovated. Cost estimates showed that this would be so expensive that it was decided to erect a new building. Firstly, as a way of financing the church, the idea of erecting three residential buildings together with the developer Condor was considered. They jointly commissioned three architecture offices - Bechter Zaffignani, Aicher Architekten and Ludescher Lutz - to each prepare a study for this proposal. The office of Bechter Zaffignani, which today is run by Michelangelo Zaffignani under just his own name, won this competition. The starting point for their project was the possibility of an exchange of land between Condor and the New Apostolic Church, which moved the church into the front row of buildings.
