Muscid Fly (Diptera, Muscidae) Distribution in River Floodplain, Forest and Swamp Biotopes of Northern Okhotia (Magadan Province, Russia)

The distribution of Muscidae over 11 biotopes and 3 landscape types of Northern Okhotia was studied. Altogether, 115 species of 23 genera of Muscidae were found in the floodplain, forest, and swamp biotopes of the region; of these, 31 species and 2 genera are recorded for the first time for Northern Okhotia, 11 species, for the Russian Far East, and 2 species ( Spilogona arcticola Huckett, 1965 and S. spinicostalis Huckett, 1965) are new to the faunas of Russia and the Palaearctic. The greatest number of species was found in the forests (83 species), followed by the floodplain biotopes (62 species) and the swamp ones (42 species). The highest diversity of Muscidae in Northern Okhotia was observed in young willow thickets in the river floodplains (53 species, or 47% of the total number) and in a larch forest with a forb ground layer (46 species, or 40%). The prevalent genera in terms of the species number and abundance in the studied landscapes were Spilogona (30 species), Coenosia (14), and Phaonia (13). Species of the genus Spilogona were dominant in most biotopes but had the highest diversity in the river floodplains (19 species, or 63%). The genera Mesembrina , Helina , Phaonia , and Mydaea were the most diverse in various types of forests. Similarity between the Muscidae assemblages in most of the studied biotopes was low; the highest similarity was observed between the local faunas of swamps and forests (I_(SzS)= 0.62–0.70).
