I often recall the time my late grandfather told me about the first time he flew faster than the speed of sound. It was during the mid-1950s in a Hunter. To this day I still laugh at his recollection that it was: "A non-event with a bit of a bump." Despite his rather unimaginative description, I knew at that moment that I wanted to join the so-called 'supersonic club'.
