Russian coal exports drop on railing issues

Russian coal exports dropped by 5pc on the year in December 2021, pressured by signifcant railing issues in the country and strong domestic demand for heating. Russia’s seaborne coal exports — which include coking coal, thermal coal, petroleum coke and metallurgical coke — totalled 15.84mn t in December, down from 16.68mn t in the same month a year earlier. On a month-on-month basis, exports rose by 2pc.
