Ventura County and Innovation Center develop biodiesel project

Kay Martinof the Ventura County, California Environmental & Energy Resources Department has been stressing how solid waste managers can and should focus on the connection between waste biomass and renewable energy generation. In her own official responsibilities, she has forged partnerships with the private sector and local universities to develop biodiesel and biogas projects. Last month, for example, her agency signed an agreement with the Gold Coast Innovation Center at California State University, Channel Islands "to develop local bioenergy projects that provide renewable energy alternatives for Ventura County and businesses." One project involves an anaerobic digester system designed by Onsite Power Systems, Inc. of Camarillo, California thatwas developed by Dr. Ruihong Zhang of the University of California-Davis. The project will utilize local green and agricultural residuals and meet the energy needs of the Channel Islands campus.
