Canberra approves Scarborough FLNG

Australia’s federal government has granted ExxonMobil environmental approval to build a 6mn-7mn t/yr floating LNG (FLNG) facility at its 10 trillion ft3 (283bn m3) Scarborough gas resource offshore Western Australia (WA). Environment minister Greg Hunt has approved the project subject to cer- tain conditions, including that the pro- ject needs to be substantially started within eight years or will need the written agreement of the environment minister. ExxonMobil has targeted first production for 2020-21, according to its submission to Australia’s environment department.
