South Australia becomes exploration hot spot

Competition is heating up offshore South Australia as BP and Chevron look at the possibilities for a new oil and gas prov- ince in the Great Australian Bight. South Australia has the potential to follow Western Australia and the Northern Territory as host to the next great offshore oil and gas basin. But the state has ground to cover to match the activities of the northwest, although it could ben- efit from the regional government’s softer stance compared with Western Australia on floating LNG projects, and from fewer resourcing problems than the Northern Territory (AGL, October, p12).
