Kawasaki to build vessel for Ichthys LNG

Japanese shipbuilder Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) will build a new LNG carrier to transport LNG from the 8.4mn t/yr Ichthys project offshore Western Australia. KHI has signed a deal with Japanese shipping firm K-Line to build a Moss-type LNG vessel with a capacity of 182,000m~3, in line with the world’s largest Moss-type vessels. The vessel will be equipped with dual fuel diesel (DFD) systems, a new technology that allows the operator to switch between conventional fuel oil and boiled-off LNG as a fuel source. This is the first time the DFD system will be used in a Moss-type vessel.
