Sabine Pass expansion causes concerns

US firm Cheniere Energy’s plan to add fifth and sixth liquefaction trains at its Sabine Pass LNG terminal on the Texas-Louisiana border appears to violate Chevron’s contract allowing it to import LNG through the facility, Chevron said in a filing to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) on 31 October. Chevron asked Ferc not to authorise the trains’ construc- tion unless Cheniere demonstrates “with clear and convincing evidence” that it will honour Chevron’s contract if it builds them. Cheniere did not respond to Argus requests for comment.
