Western Australia demands gas reservation from FLNG

Floating LNG (FLNG) projects in Western Australia (WA) should be required to supply 15pc of output to the domestic market, in line with requirements for onshore LNG projects, the state’s Domgas alliance of major gas consumers has told the WA government. Domgas made the suggestion to the state government’s standing committee on the economic impacts of FLNG. The committee was set up in May after Australian independent Woodside Petroleum rejected plans for a 12mn t/yr onshore liquefaction plant at its Browse LNG project, and instead began looking into an FLNG development with project partner Shell (AGL, May, p7). The WA government is not keen on FLNG developments because it would lose out on royalties and jobs, so it could decide not to approve an FLNG project.
