Enemalta proposes LNG import terminal

Malta’s state-owned utility Enemalta has filed for permission to construct an LNG receiving terminal and a 180-220MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant. The proposed CCGT would be fed by gas from an LNG regasification terminal, according to the planning application filed last month with Malta’s environment and planning authority. The CCGT would replace power generation capacity that will be lost when Malta’s 130MW Marsa B steam plant, which is fired by heavy fuel oil, is decommissioned by the end of 2015 under EU emissions directives.
