Dry bulk and container losses push NYK into the red

Japanese shipowner NYK Line has warned of an unexpected loss of ￥195bn ($1.9bn) for the fiscal year to March 2017. The loss will consist of a ￥160bn impairment charge on its vessels, the value of which have slumped in the past 18 months, and ￥35bn of provisions for losses on contracts. Its container vessel business will account for ￥100bn - the largest portion of the loss - while its dry bulk business will account for ￥85bn and the cargo aircraft business for ￥10bn.
