Japan’s LNG imports fell by 3.8pc from a year earlier to 7.4mn t in February, as weaker demand led to high inventories and discouraged buyers from taking extra cargoes. Japan cut purchases from the Middle East, with imports falling by 14.3pc from a year earlier to 2mn t, finance ministry data show. Deliveries from African countries fell, as supply from Nigeria dropped by 47.9pc to 257,666t. A fall in Russian supply helped push overall imports lower, with deliveries dropping by 54.3pc to 364,452t. But imports from Asia-Pacific increased. Purchases from Australia rose by 13.4pc to 1.6mn t, while supply from Malaysia increased by 8.7pc to 1.5mn t. Imports from Indonesia and Brunei rose by 105.5pc to 670,005t and by 31.2pc to 419,840t, respectively. The only Asia-Pacific supplier to ship less to Japan was Papua New Guinea, which recorded a 9.1pc fall to 443,252t.
