India mulls new gas price formula

India will consider a new formula for pricing domestic natural gas, potentially pegging the rate to that of alternative fuels to help develop deposits located in geographically challenging regions. The government may increase gas prices to around $6/mn Btu to help take advantage of discoveries situated in deepwater and unconventional areas. It will look into a new formula that averages the landed price of naphtha, fuel oil and LNG, the finance ministry says.
