Japan’s Jera looks to market pricing

Japanese LNG importer Jera plans to use market index prices for its spot and term transactions, but probably only next dec- ade, when it expects the Asia-Pacific market to have become more liquid and transparent. “As of the early 2020s, the Asia-Pacific market will have lost its distinctiveness,” Jera president Yuji Kakimi says. “It will, by then, be a transparent market, interlinked with the [US and European] natural gas markets, fully liquid, where transactions will be priced reflecting actual demand and supply.”
