Japex aims to double domestic gas volumes

Japanese upstream firm Japex plans to more than double the amount of natural gas it handles in the domestic market to 2.5mn t/yr of LNG equivalent by March 2026 from 1.2mn t/yr, by boosting LNG imports amid a decline in production. Japex buys 830mn m~3/yr of natural gas from domestic fields and 600,000 t/yr (827mn m~3/yr dry gas equivalent) of LNG imports. The target, set in the firm’s longterm business plan released on 12 May, does not indicate how far Japex expects domestic output to decline by 2026.
