InterOil to close Total PNG deal soon

US independent InterOil hopes to finalise a deal with Total for an LNG project in Papua New Guinea(PNG)by the end of this quarter,it said on 29 January.InterOil signed an initial agreement with Total in December last year(AGL,January,p5). The comments follow a 25 January announcement by PNG-focused producer Oil Search that it is still in talks with Total and InterOil about buying a stake in petro-leum retention lease 15(PRL 15).The licence in the PNG’s southern highlands contains the Elk and Antelope gas fields, which would underpin the proposed LNG project.Oil Search already partners Total in five exploration licences in the Gulf of Papua(AGL,November 2012,p9).
