Japan stayed firm at the UN Cop on its decision not to renew its Kyoto protocol commitments. The country's painful recovery after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March, together with a change of government, has set it on another course of action-cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through direct deals with countries, the so-called bilateral offset credit mechanism approach.
