US EPA budget proposes state carbon rules funding

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)aims to grant state environmenta agencies financing,in order to cover the costs of upcoming federal rules targeting reductions in CO2 emissions from new and existing power plants,according to its proposed 2015 budget. The proposal comes as the Department of Energy’s budget is con-sidering a shift of funds towards a natura gas-specific carbon capture and storage (CCS)programme from existing,coal-focused CCS projects.
