Vulnerability, hazards, adaptation, resilience: useful concepts for analysing, understanding and managing sanitary crises in forests

© AgroParisTech, 2023.Economic, sanitary, climatic and social crises perturb and disorganise the world without sparing the forest sector. After a short historical record of forest crises mainly caused by droughts, this article recounts how the ob-servations and the understanding of the successions of events, sensitivity factors and dysfunctionings were gradually formalised within a generic framework. Relying on concepts used in the fields of hazard and crisis ma-nagement, this article describes an approach aimed at objectifying stakes, monitoring and understanding sanitary crises in forests, so as to identify the hazards at stake and the causal weaknesses. Finally, management and adaptation approaches usable to face ongoing and upcoming crises are mentioned.
