The objective for African textiles is to address some of the global challenges through sustainable practices. In February of this year, Mr. Srini Srinivason, President of the World Design Organization, visited'the University and encouraged us to alignour design practices and education with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By 2030, our aim is to end poverty and hunger, increase access to education, address migration, combat climate change, and reduce inequality.Handmade and high-end products have significant demand, and traditional products that have a story or cultural values are also potential revenue sources, in terms of style or raw materials. Additionally, most workers in traditional crafts and sectors such as weaving, tie and dye, screen printing, and embroidery are women.
