Worcestershire County Council's rapid LED rollout programme is both a response to the energy crisis and an opportunity to tackle the adverse impacts of artificial lighting at night on bats, flora and fauna. It also has synergies with the recently launched ROLAN manifesto [1]. As ILP members familiar with Worcestershire will know, it is predominantly a rural county, but with several urbanised town centres and Worcester City itself. Street lighting provision is centred around urbanised areas, some major A-roads and the primary links to motorway networks; many of the A-roads are unilluminated.
