An unusual case of hyperthyroidism

A 60-year-old Caucasian female (Mrs A) was referred by her GP to our acute medical admissions unit with an acutely swollen right arm. She also reported that her abdomen had recently started to feel more full than usual and she had occasional abdominal pain. Since 1977, she had been treated for primary hyperthyroidism with carbimazole under the care of her GP.
