ENERGY demand continued its steady recovery last year from the Covid-19 crash of 2020 but the upward trajectory was not evenly distributed across regions and energy types, according to a new report released early this week by the UK-based Energy Institute.World events- most notably, Russia's invasion of Ukraine early this year - also complicated the picture for oil and gas demand in 2022, the survey shows.Global energy demand grew by 1.1% last year, a marked slowdown from 2021's 5.5% increase but enough to bring overall demand to about 3% above 2019 pre-Covid levels, the Energy Institute (EI) says. Greenhouse gas emissions also grew last year, up 0.8% despite a rapid scale-up of renewable energy deployment.
