Mozambique tests LNG ambitions

Mozambique’s LNG export projects could face further delays as a result of uncertainty caused by lower gas prices, new fiscal terms and the prospect that demand in key Asia-Pacific markets could be met by rival exporters. Italy’s Eni expects first LNG production in 2019 from a 2.5mn t/yr floating LNG facility based on gas from its offshore block 4 in the Rovuma basin. A larger initial 10mn t/yr capacity onshore LNG facility that Eni is co-developing with US independent Anadarko Petroleum, which operates offshore block 1, is expected to start up a year later. Anadarko, which had originally expected a 2018 start-up, has dropped its revised start-up expectation of 2019 (AGL, September, p15).
