Japanese utility Kansai Electric Power began commercial operations at its new 486.5MW LNG-fired unit 1 at the Himeji Daini plant on 27 August, three weeks behind schedule. Commercial operations at the combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) in western Hyogo prefecture were due to start on 6 August, after the end of test operations that began in November last year. But the unit shut on 5 August after an abnormal temperature drop in the turbine. Upgrading work continues at Himeji Daini through the addition of CCGT technology.
