Indian state-owned LNG importer and terminal operator Petronet will finally open its 5mn t/yr Kochi LNG facility in mid-August. This is despite a delay in building a pipeline to customers and plans to renegotiate a long-term purchase contract signed with Australia’s Gorgon project, which may affect supplies to the facility. The Kochi terminal will receive its first commissioning cargo from Qatar’s Rasgas on 15 August after a year’s delay, even as the Tamil Nadu government and state-controlled distributor Gail are locked in a legal battle over building a pipeline connecting Kochi to consumers. The pipeline would pass through three southern Indian states (AGL, May, p9).
