The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has published a new guideline on the diagnosis and management of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)1. The publication date had been delayed for several months following disagreement among stakeholders. However, despite what NICE describes as 'a successful roundtable discussion convened to address concerns by some professional bodies', several medical bodies, including the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM), have voiced further unease that the guideline does not fully reflect the scientific evidence.
