US gas futures plunged in May as a late cold snap faded, generating demand fell and stocks neared average levels. Nymex prompt-month gas futures dropped by 35.9￠/mn Btu, or 8.3pc, to settle on 31 May at $3.984/mn Btu. Prices traded above $4/mn Btu for most of May, but finished below that mark on signs of a downturn in demand.
