Construction of an LNG storage tank at the Mejillones LNG receiving terminal in northern Chile is running at least a month behind schedule, executives close to the project tell Argus. The 175,000m~3 tank was due to be finished in November, but the completion date has been pushed back to December or January. The 1.5mn t/yr import terminal — operated by GNL Mejillones (GNLM), a joint venture of France’s GDF Suez with 63pc and Chilean state-owned mining firm Codelco with 37pc — started commercial operations in 2010 under a three-year initial fast-track mode using floating storage. It received just over 173,800t of LNG in January-June, down from around 259,400t in the same period of 2012.
