US gas futures sink as heat fades

US gas futures fell in July as a mid-month heat wave faded and mild weather was forecast through what is traditionally the hottest part of the summer. Nymex prompt-month gas futures fell by 11.9￠/mn Btu, or 3.3pc, to settle at $3.446/mn Btu on 31 July. Prices reached a peak settlement of $3.812/ mn Btu on 18 July, as hot weather blanketed the northern US, boosting demand in key markets such as New York and Boston and helping to curb gas inventory growth.
