Japan's trade and industry ministry is planning to establish the country as a regional LNG trading hub by 2025. "Japan will accelerate every possible action to establish itself as an LNG trading hub some time in the first half of the 2020s," the ministry's deputy director of oil and gas, Yu Teraoka, said at the CWC LNG conference in Singapore last month. Establishing an LNG trading hub would enhance Japan's role in price formation and dissemination, strengthening its position in buying negotiations and its ability to achieve reasonable prices, Teraoka said.
