US LNG imports rise

The US imported LNG equivalent to 91.1bn ft~3 (2.58bn m~3) of natural gas in 2015, up by 54pc on the year, the Department of Energy (DOE) says. Imports rose as the US became a more competitive destination for LNG because of weak spot demand in other parts of the world. Last year’s total was, neverthless, the second-lowest since 1999. Booming domestic shale gas production has significantly decreased US demand for imported LNG.
