Indian state-controlled gas distributor Gail may boost spot LNG purchases to compensate for a sharp fall in domestic natural gas production this month. India’s biggest upstream producer, state-controlled ONGC, has cut natural gas output from a key field off the country’s west coast for repairs to a pipeline. ONGC has reduced pro- duction from the Bassein area, its biggest gas producing asset, by as much as 14mn m~3/d, or 40pc, to repair the line. The cut is equivalent to around 15pc of India’s total gas output of 90mn m~3/d in the financial year that ended on 31 March.
