Atlantic cargoes stranded by 2015 supply surge

The Atlantic and Pacific basins could become disconnected more frequently in 2015, with new LNG supply sources available in the Pacific reducing the competitiveness of Atlantic cargoes in Asian demand centres. Export projects with a combined capacity of almost 48.2mn t/yr could start operations in 2015, according to Argus calculations. The vast majority of these projects are located in the Pacific basin — 40.9mn t/yr in Australia, with the rest in Malaysia, Indonesia and Colombia. Just one project with a capacity of 500,000 t/yr is expected to be commissioned in the Atlantic — Belgian Exmar’s floating LNG project in Colombia (see p15).
