GDF Suez suspends Neptune LNG operations

French utility GDF Suez suspended on 31 December its licence to operate the Neptune LNG import facility offshore the US northeast until June 2018 because of low natural gas prices. The company owns the Everett LNG import terminal, located outside Boston, Massachusetts, and regularly brings LNG cargoes to the onshore facility. GDF Suez in early 2010 installed Neptune LNG in Massachusetts Bay, about 10 miles (16km) south of Gloucester, Massachusetts, partly because of difficulties in expanding Everett, which has sustainable baseload capacity of 715mn ft3/d (7.36bn m3/yr) and peak capacity of 1bn ft3/d.
