CHINESE engineering, procurement and construction contractor Tianchen Engineering Corporation has completed the second phase of what is claimed to be world's largest underground gas storage (UGS) project in Turkey. The expansion of the Tuz Golu UGS project comprises 10 tanks with total gas injection capacity of 1 billion cubic metres, enough to sustain seven days of gas consumption in Turkey, Tianjin-based Tianchen says. Botas, Turkey's state gas importer, operates the facility in Aksaray province. Underground natural salt caverns 1000 metres below the surface are being leached in preparation for the gas, which will be transported via a spur line connected to the Eastern Anatolia natural gas transmission line.
