Majestic clouds with rain in the distance is the backdrop as drilling takes place on One Water Nevada's Palomino Farms water resource sustainability project. The project is one part of a regionally comprehensive, research-driven approach to water resource management being considered and supported collaboratively by the University of Nevada, Reno; City of Reno, Nevada; City of Sparks, Nevada; Washoe County, Nevada; and the Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA). Hydrogeologic investigations were conducted to assess the feasibility of managed aquifer recharge at this drill site located north of Reno. Sonic drilling done by a team from Cascade Drilling LP allowed TMWA's hydrogeologists to describe the vadose zone in detail and collect discrete samples for advanced soils analysis. Seven-inch sonic borings were advanced to 600 feet and two-inch PVC wells were installed to collect ground-water samples. Photo courtesy Christian Kropf, TMWA.
