Australia-EU ETS linkage moves forward

The European Commission has submitted a recommendation to the European Council to open for- mal negotiations for linking the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS) with Australia's domestic scheme. Negotiations will begin once a mandate is received from the council. The agreement to link the schemes - the first full intercontinen- tal ETS link - was made between the Australian government and European Commission in August last year.
