Unconventional gas to double Algerian output

Algeria expects significant tight andshale gas reserves discoveries to allowit to double its production of 3 trillion ft3/yr (85bn m3/yr) over the next 7-10 years,oil minister Youcef Yousfi says.Algeria has at least 300 trillion ft3 oftechnically recoverable tight gas, and700 trillion ft3 of shale gas, according toYousfi. Pilot tests will begin by the end ofthis year or in early 2014 to assess theeconomics of producing those reserves.If the results are positive, Algeria couldbegin large-scale production in two orthree years, and Algiers aims to attractforeign partners to participate in developingits tight and shale gas reserves(AGC, 9 October, p5).
