Details emerge of Gazprom-Eni gas deal

Russia’s state-controlled Gazprom has agreed to cut Italian firm Eni’s take-orpay obligation this year, allowing Eni greater latitude to make up ground on take-or-pay commitments that it failed to meet in previous years. Eni’s take-or-pay obligation falls to 16bn m~3 this year from 19bn m~3/yr. Eni will make up for the cut by taking more gas in 2015-17. But a lower take-or-pay floor will not necessarily translate into a commensurate cut in purchases from Gazprom. Eni says its “ability to recover gas prepaid under ‘take or pay’ clauses will be significantly enhanced”.
