By the time you read this, La Ferte-Alais' 50th Meeting Aerien will be only a few weeks away, taking place on Saturday 27-Sunday 28 May. It will, as ever, be a highlight of the European airshow calendar. But what goes into putting it on, and what are the challenges inherent in running an event of this scale and renown? Cyrille Valente is president of the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis and organiser of the show. A former aeronautical technician, he now manufactures windows. Michel Geindre, the flying display director both here and at several other venues in France, is an ex-Air Inter and Air France pilot who flies a Yak-52TD and SOCATA Epsilon from La Ferte. They are but two of around 30 members of the core organising team, though in total the event involves many of the circa 250-280 AJBS members in some capacity.
