Gas oversupply to end in two to five years — Edison

The oversupply affecting the global gas market could be over in two to three years in the best-case scenario and in five years in the worst case, as energy needs increase, Italian energy group Edison chief executive Umberto Quadrino says. In just two years, the Italian gas market has shifted from risking supply shortages during the winter period to a signifi- cant oversupply, owing to an increase of about 20bn m3/yr in import capacity and a drop in demand stemming from the economic downturn, Quadrino said during a conference call on Edison's first-half results on 23 July.
